At Relate Mid and East Surrey we want to offer 5 subsidised counselling sessions to couples, families, young people and individuals from low income households to increase access to the support they need during times of difficulty and crisis.
We have a team of highly qualified counsellors who can offer support either in person or on Zoom. The 50 minute sessions will be weekly. Our latest research has shown the impact of our work: 83% of clients say their situation is now improved and better following counselling, 84% say they are better able to cope and 72% say their mental health has improved.
It is well known the importance of addressing mental health issues early before they manifest themselves as a chronic illness. Research has shown that 75% of mental illness begins before the age of 18. If we can help these young people understand their thoughts and feelings and develop strategies to cope in challenging situations, we believe we can help prevent a more chronic mental health condition manifesting itself when they reach adulthood. Counselling is therefore a preventative tool and can reduce costs and strain on the limited NHS resources in the long term.
At Relate Mid and East Surrey we believe healthy relationships are at the heart of a thriving society. Family relationships when good provide love and support, however when they breakdown they can be hugely detrimental to the mental health and well being of all involved. Please support our campaign to provide counselling services to those households on low income so they can still get access to the support they need despite the cost of living crisis and the pressure on their funds to simply heat their homes and feed themselves.
Whether it is the couple needing support to prevent their relationship irreparably breaking down, whether it is one of the children needing support to develop coping strategies to deal with anxiety, bullying or low self esteem or the whole family needing to improve communication and learn to understand and support each other, we have a number of counselling services to provide the most appropriate service.
