Supporting Cancer Support Centre Fundraising

Who are we?

The hospitals look after the clinical needs and treatments of the body, but we look after the mind and the spirit – the emotional and psychological support that is really important to managing and coping, and being the best you can be whatever the situation or prognosis. 

Impact

We support adults affected by cancer at whatever stage they come to us plus close family  - right at the beginning when they are coming to terms with what has happened, through any surgery and hospital treatments or afterwards when everyone may be adjusting to a different life with different perspectives  

Each person receives an individually focused therapeutic programme of 121 therapy sessions, with access to talks, workshops and groups to help their mind body and spirit.  We provide the important community - the safe space where they can be in a safe place, receive help with decision making and taking back control, building back confidence and self esteem and empowering them to move forward.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We do not get funding from the govt or NHS, and we have to raise £3200 every week to provide the support we do, and in the current economic climate it is becoming increasingly difficult.  Costs to run any events are continuing to rise whilst the ability of our supporters to give is reducing. We are hoping to raise at least £7000 to help offset event costs that amounted to more than £15,000 last year.

Waiting for test results and surgery for me was completely consuming and overwhelming and I just didn't know how to cope or how to move forward! 

How we’ll spend the money raised

For instance, excluding food costs which are reimbursed as part of the ticket price, we have costs of approximately

- £300 each time we run a Quiz night

- £600 when we run a Race Night

- £1200 each time we run a Summer of Christmas Fayre

- £1000 when we run a Golf Day

- £3500 when we ran our first Black Tie Charity Ball

- £350 when we run a fundraising activity such as Glass painting or Wreath making

Funds raised via this project will ensure that a much higher proportion of the funds raised at each event, is able to go directly towards the supporting therapeutic programmes and sessions we offer.
