To provide the members of our Social Supermarket with access to food and support to help them face a difficult winter.
Our mission is to prevent poverty, hunger and homelessness in Norwich. - We support people who are facing insecurity with their housing, or who face a barrier to employment, such as mental ill health, substance misuse, history of offending and learning difficulties. - We provide employability projects designed to teach people new skills, to build confidence and motivation so that they are able to move forward into employment. - We run cafés and a catering enterprise which provides some income to fund our work. It also enables us to deliver our valuable program of supported work experience and volunteering opportunities for the community. - Our social supermarket provides people with affordable and free groceries, hygiene and cleaning products to help people struggling with the increasing cost of living. We offer workshops that address the underlying causes of poverty. -Our vision is ‘a community free from poverty’
Our Social Supermarket Project
Since opening in July, demand for our social supermarket has been overwhelming. We anticipated a membership base of 300 people within the first 12 months. We are currently at 1650 members, reaching over 3000 Norwich residents. This shows the level of need in our small city and everyday our membership is increasing as people find it harder to cope with the rising cost of living. We need to be able to provide people with a regularity of food stock and ensure that our shelves are always full. Doing that has become more difficult as both the demand has increased and also the cost of providing the food. This funding would mean we can ensure that people facing food insecurity, continue to have access to affordable food and hygiene products during the winter months.
