Victoria's Trees: Photomonth Exhibition

Aim

I want to show a series of nocturnal trees photographed in Victoria Park combined with London street stills from the POV of a delivery rider

The Exhibition:

Last winter I started taking photographs of the trees in Victoria Park, set against the London night sky. Initially it was conceived as a present for my girlfriend to help with her winter blues. She dreads the English winter but since moving here from the south of France she’s had a loving connection to Victoria Park. Her middle name also happens to be Victoria. 

At the same time I was going through a rough patch of my own, reflecting on my precarious situation in a free-falling creative industry. I spent the days gigging on a delivery bicycle through the streets of London, and at night I would process my observations from these rides in the park: 

> Corporate loading bays and security glass separating the entitled from the rest of us > Caterers in dark kitchens, up since 4am, greet me with a smile > Roo riders on Relentless > Sainsbury’s security letting the shop-raiders pass > Only the homeless are not glued to their screens.  > All navigating our precarious lives. AI, Trump, digital feudalism, climate change.

The majestic, bare branches of the trees kept pulling me back. Something was still sane here. A stability, a permanent state of calm (and yet tree regeneration rate has fallen over 40% - by now badly precarious too).

Riding the tarmac from one concrete hollow to another, I hope the trees will still arbour us.

But let's face it: political art doesn't sell even though I have been showing in the V&A, NPG, museums and galleries around the world, and activism doesn't pay the bills either. 

So, I am trying out something new here: buy a tree, and get a flourishing art-activist for free!  Your contribution will make a real difference to my long term political work, and it's important, because the world is not exactly entering a rose garden, right?

The Venue: 

Numbers wine is a small, celebrated, pioneering urban winery, situated on Vyner St in the heart of East London and next to Victoria Park. At the opening they will offer low-intervention wines using english-grown grapes from responsible growers.
