Aim

Utopia is transforming the Bellfield Tavern into a community tech hub with maker spaces, gaming, learning and opportunities for all.

Who We Are

We’re Utopia Computers, an independent PC builder with deep roots in Kilmarnock. For 30 years, we’ve been hand-building high-performance systems for gamers, creators and professionals across the UK and beyond, while helping thousands of customers across Ayrshire keep their existing technology running for longer through repairs, upgrades and expert support.

Every machine we build is assembled, tested and signed by the builder who made it. That same commitment to quality and longevity has guided our repair work for decades, helping to reduce electronic waste by extending the life of computers that might otherwise have been discarded.

But Utopia has always been about more than computers. From day one, we’ve believed that technology should create opportunities, inspire curiosity and bring people together.

Now, we’re taking that belief beyond the workshop.

The Project & Our Vision

Utopia Computers is on the move. After almost 30 years in Kilmarnock, we're creating a permanent home for the next chapter of our journey in the former Bellfield Tavern, a much-loved local landmark that has stood empty for several years.

The move gives us the space we need to grow and expand our workshop, but this project is about far more than new premises. We believe the building deserves a second chance and have a vision to transform it into the Utopia Innovation Centre: a technology hub that combines our PC building operations with spaces for learning, creativity and collaboration.

At the heart of the project is the Future Utopians Project, our commitment to inspiring the next generation through technology. We want to create opportunities for young people to gain hands-on experience, explore future careers and build confidence through workshops, mentoring and structured work experience programmes.

Alongside supporting young people, the centre will provide a welcoming space where makers can access tools such as 3D printers, community groups can meet and people of all ages can develop their digital skills.

The project is also an opportunity to show how existing buildings can be adapted for the future rather than replaced. By improving efficiency and incorporating sustainable technologies where possible, we aim to create a space that serves the community for years to come.

At its heart, this project is about investing everything we've learned over the last 30 years back into the community that helped make Utopia what it is today.

Our team of technicians, builders and creators want to put Kilmarnock on the tech map and prove that innovation can thrive right here in Ayrshire.

We're all in.

Why Crowdfunding?

The move to the Bellfield Tavern is already underway, and we're committed to making it happen. But many of the community-focused elements of the project go beyond what a growing business would normally invest in on its own.

That's where crowdfunding can make a real difference.

Support from this campaign will help us go beyond creating a new home for Utopia and invest in facilities and opportunities that can be shared with the wider community.

Crowdfunding also demonstrates community support for the project. Every contribution, no matter the size, shows that people believe in bringing this building back into use and creating new opportunities for Kilmarnock.

Whether you choose to back the project financially, share our story or simply follow the journey, you're helping us turn a long-empty building into a space that can serve the community for years to come.

Rewards for Backers

Every contribution helps bring the Utopia Innovation Centre to life. As a thank you, we've created a range of rewards for supporters who want to be part of the journey.

FAQ

Is this just a new shop for Utopia?

No. While the Bellfield Tavern will become Utopia's new home, our goal is to create a space that also benefits the wider community through learning opportunities, events, workshops and technology-focused activities.

What will crowdfunding money be used for?

Funds raised through this campaign will help support the community-focused elements of the project, including shared spaces, equipment, events and opportunities that go beyond the day-to-day needs of the business.

Is the move happening regardless of crowdfunding?

Yes. We're committed to making the move happen. Crowdfunding helps us deliver more of the community benefits that form part of the wider vision for the building.

What happens if we exceed our target?

Additional funding will allow us to expand the project's community impact, helping us deliver more equipment, more learning opportunities and additional activities within the centre.

What happens if we don't reach the target?

We'll continue pursuing the project and exploring other funding opportunities. Every contribution helps demonstrate community support and strengthens our case when applying for grants and investment.

When will the Innovation Centre open?

The project will be delivered in phases. We'll provide regular updates throughout the campaign and keep supporters informed as key milestones are reached.
