We have had to close our doors to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we need your help to ensure they open again.
What we are raising money for:
As we're sure you are all aware at the moment, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is having massive effects around the world, and the heritage sector is no exception. Due to the government advice surrounding social distancing, we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to close the doors of our beloved museum to the public until at least the 1st August 2020. As a small charity in the heart of Birmingham, without the support of our visitors, volunteers, family, friends and the wider world, this threatens our long term security and we need as much help as we can possibly get to solidify our survival.
More about Coffin Works:
This fantastic grade II* listed building, which made coffin furniture for over 100 years, offers visitors the extraordinary opportunity to ‘step back in time’ and experience the factory as a ‘time-capsule’, set in the 1960s, the company’s heyday. The shelves and workbenches at the Coffin Works are full of original stock and tools of the trade. With the original machinery working again, you can truly experience how this old Jewellery Quarter firm once operated on a day-to-day basis, producing some of the world’s finest coffin furniture, including the fittings for the funerals of Joseph Chamberlain, Winston Churchill and the Queen Mother.
The Coffin Works is not just a museum though. We are very proud to be a part of the strong community of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. We have tenant spaces for local independent businesses, room hire facilities and a strong voice in support of working together to preserve Birmingham's fantastic heritage.
How you can help!
To help ensure the longevity of the Coffin Works, we have decided to launch a very exciting new scheme of memberships! People will be able to buy an annual membership, visit the museum as many times as they like within that year for free, then get discounts on our shows, shop and more! We will only be able to launch this new and exciting feature with your donations and support.
We would ask that any who can, donations absolutely anything they can, to support us through this very difficult period in time to enable us to come out the other side of this crisis stronger than ever.
We understand what difficult times we are all in and we want to show our undying appreciation and thanks for your faith and support in the Coffin Works. Therefore, we would like to offer the first 25 people who donate £20, one of our brand new memberships, complete with free entry for a year from our reopening, discounts, and an exclusive limited edition welcome pack and gift!
