Aim

Help us create a Giant-Making Zine to celebrate the Lostwithiel Giant Parade, and inspire wide involvement in the art of giant making!

The Lost Giants are excited to announce their plan to create and publish a series of Giant Making Zines! This fun, illustrated, self-published collection will dive into the world of giant-making and celebrate its roots in Lostwithiel, Cornwall.

What Will the Zines Include?

  • Intriguing Articles: Discover the historical and folkloric roots of giant-making.
  • Practical Guidance: Learn the craft with tips and advice for aspiring giant makers.
  • Tall tales of famous Cornish Giants
  • Interactive DIY Activities & Fold Out Posters
  • Insightful writings and beautiful illustrations by Ruth and Amy Webb!

In classic zine fashion, we'll be printing them using Riso!  Known for its vivid colors and textured finish, Riso printing will give our zines a unique artistic touch with a handcrafted charm. Plus, it’s an eco-friendly printing process, using sustainable soy-based inks.

Why We Need Your Support

By backing our campaign, you’ll help us produce a series of zines that will be distributed for free throughout Lostwithiel, Cornwall, sparking interest and encouraging involvement in the Lostwithiel Giant Parade- a New Years Eve Folk Tradition. You'll also be helping to share the little-known art of giant-making far and wide, beyond Lostwithiel.

The Importance of a Zine

A zine is a grassroots, do-it-yourself publication, much like the parade itself. Our Giant Making Zine will not only encourage the people of Lostwithiel to participate  but also serve as a lasting record of the tradition of giant-making. It will be accessible to anyone interested in folk traditions and creative crafts, reaching beyond our community.

About The Lostwithiel Giants Parade

The Lostwithiel Giants Parade is a New Year's Eve folk tradition centred around creating and parading giants. It humbly began in 1990 as an alternative New Year celebration among family and friends and has since been embraced by the broader community.
