Who am I? Why am I standing?
Hello, I am Laura Marshall and I have been asked by communities across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and North East Scotland to stand as an MSP candidate to represent the North East better and more effectively in Holyrood.
So I am standing as an Independent MSP Candidate on the North East Regional List in the Scottish Election on May 6th 2021.
Where am I from?
I am from the North East, as grew up, was educated , worked here and above all I live here! Thus I know deeply the needs, wishes of our communities across the North East. I have direct involvement with our vast sectors of industry and employment that all want to build back stronger after this sad Covid 19 pandemic.
My Experience
Aberdeen is the Energy capital of Europe from conventional oil, gas to hydro, our fast developing renewables-wind, tidal sectors-potentially 25% Europe's future power -I worked for a decade in energy, mainly renewable energy especially solar as consultant PR/Communications as well as searching Investment-this is an area I will actively promote as I have the experience, world contacts to bring here as well as ensure NE energy hubs are represented correctly for Scots/Scotland at COP 26.
I have campaigned among our agricultural, fishing communities now being decimated by current Brexit restrictions. Our extensive sectors include agriculture-grain, beef,seed potatoes etc, whisky production, construction, retail and more.
Furthermore I also work/worked in Education for many decades across the world in many nations as well as here, gaining the ability to speak several languages as well as manged large teams of international staff.
My Masters degree is Sociology (Includes 2 years Politics ) from Glasgow University and I've worked decades in education, PR, communications, Energy in Scotland and across dozens of European, world nations.
I have campaigned for Scottish Independence for decades especially through 2012-2014 campaigns, even harder from 2014 onwards. I walked the initial 500 Miles Walk to link all Yes groups in 2018-ensure 100000s in Edinburgh for AUOB. Also I worked on dozens of campaigns as Convener, Women's officer, Political Education to ensure dozens of elected MSPs, MPs, Councillors in the North East, Moray,Highlands and Islands, Edinburgh.
I also have campaigned to inform communities by giving talks-providing forms across Highlands-Moray of Scottish Government Consultations especially the initial Land Reform consultation of 2015, the GRA changes consultation 2019/2020. I spent 2 years informing, leafleting all Scotland regarding the UK Gov 'Powergrab' on 24 Defra devolved powers of the Scottish Parliament/Government re Scots agriculture, fishing, human rights etc. We now face this devastating Power grab.
Some of my aims to help North East and Scotland :
1) Independence of Scotland- actively taking the message of Independence facts-financial feasibility to all North East voters - if elected I will work with, promote, vote with all parties with Scottish Independence as a core manifesto value.
2) Ensure North East communities have good representation at Holyrood-stand up for NE in all sectors- investment, housing , laws, infrastructure, energy, farming, fishing, NHS-Health, schooling, land reform, construction, hospitality,job creation .
3) Correct dissemination of Scottish Parliament-Scottish Government information to all voters, constituents regarding all consultations-bills-laws being made in Scots names, enacted on Scotland especially when unpopular policy is not made visible in all party manifestos on doors to Scottish voters.
4) I uphold All Human Rights to equality, fairness, justice thus I will uphold the Equality Act EQA2010 Women's Rights and non-negotiable Child Safeguarding.
Why support my funding appeal?
So I would like to ask all to help me win this seat for Scotland's Independence.
As an independent candidate I will need to secure 15-18,000 votes across the regional constituency thus need your help to build a team to further inform, leaflet and reach all NE voters.
In 2016 some 137,086 List votes to 1 party resulted in zero list MSPs thus zero NE List representation. On the hand, approx 142,000 List votes for combined three parties resulted in 7 List MSPs that many across our North East do not know, do not contact nor feel represent them in so many communities especially on the Scots 62% NO Brexit vote. This is a travesty in terms of Representation!
