Who We Are & What We'd Love To Do:

Hop Hideout is an award winning speciality beer shop and tasting room, founded in 2013 as a ‘labour of beery love’ by Jules Gray.

One of the first ‘drink in’ beer shops in the UK, we have 200+ chilled beers available to browse, enjoy there and then or takeaway - including four fresh rotating draught taps. Owner Jules has a penchant for wild ales, funky beers, natural wines and farmhouse cider and loves nothing more than helping you find something you love to drink.

We started as a pop-up along Abbeydale Road, south-west Sheffield, just down the road from Abbeydale Brewery in 2013. We then moved into a café space next door in 2015 and then in 2019 we moved to a city centre foodhall space. Managing to steer through the Covid-19 pandemic we're hugely grateful to still be here and our expanding offering covers beer, cider, low intervention wines, kombucha and more. In addition to the beer tastings and events we regularly hold. We celebrated our 10th birthday in 2023. A customer even called us a Sheffield beer institution recently, which swelled our heart!

Passionate about Sheffield, good causes, and making beer a welcoming space for everyone, Jules is also founder and organiser of Sheffield Beer Week and Indie Beer Feast, craft beer festival.

We've built up a great reputation for quality craft beer (we used to say speciality beer when we first opened back in 2013!), cider, low intervention wine and more already and this move would enable us to have our own front door and own venue space again.

Leah's Yard Move:

Enabling us to deliver more bespoke food and drink tasting orientated events. In addition to having our space back to host private events (your birthdays, celebrations and more that we love to enable) and hire. It's important to us to create a characterful place that is welcoming to all. We believe a thriving independent business scene is important to Sheffield and we want to continue to be a part of that. We're thrilled to be joining the Leah's Yard community. You can read more on Jules and the last 10 years over at Exposed Magazine...

We've a handful of the usual pinch points including the premise licence. We'd also like to build a more bespoke space including a cold store for all our stock. Quality is key for us and always has been. We look forward to working these through, but it's always a challenge and we hope you can understand these pinch point areas.

Our hopes are high, after putting together all the best bits of the things we love from beer to cider, events and more.  In addition after winning the Drinks Retailing national award for 'Best UK Independent Beer Retailer' in February 2018, Sheffield City Centre 2019 'Best Independent Retailer', and getting to the finalist selection for 'Hybrid Retailer' in the Drinks Retailing Awards 2020. The last 10 years have seemed like a constant progression, but we hope this move may be a forever home.

We are very ready to move on to the next stage of our development and we'd love for you to join us on our journey. We are putting together this fundraiser to engage with our customers (you!), while offering our existing and future customers something in reward for supporting our ideas.

TV & Press:

Jules has hosted two nationally televised beer tastings on Summer on The Farm with Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson, watched by over a million folks. Hop Hideout has been featured on Sunday Brunch's website and in national newspapers such as The Guardian and The Independent. Good Beer Hunting featured Jules on their 2021 Signifiers list, which was an honour! We also offer mail order, home delivery and click & collect options via our website. This is the next step for us to develop our ideas and grow.

The Risks:

There is an element of unpredictability regarding timings of launch; as with all construction/redesign projects. We are aiming to be open by July 2024. But we will keep everyone updated via mail outs and social media, so you can share along the way on our journey. There's always challenges too around licensing and the build itself. We will have a gap between leaving the old site/venue (end of April 2024) and moving to the Leah's Yard, so this Crowdfunder will really help when we're not open and trading and in what's been a really difficult time post Covid. We really do appreciate any support you can give, we know it's been tough for everyone.

The Rewards:

This crowdfunding campaign is aimed at rewarding the people that support us in our next steps. The rewards include generous gift cards (which you can use in store or on our website for mail order/ click & collect / home delivery - on beer, cider, wine and/or soft drinks), limited artist designed merchandise, bespoke ceramic tankards, beer and cider tastings, exclusive Crowdfunder 'Supporters Party' and more. We also hope to fill our space with beer, cider and wine lovers from the start. In return get to spend your money on our 8-strong tap list and chilled 200-wide bottle/can beer, cider, wine and softs/kombucha selection.

Important Info:

All rewards are to be redeemed at Hop Hideout, Leah's Yard, Sheffield. Unless specified otherwise within the rewards.

Please do buy multiple rewards, the more the merrier...

The ceramic tankard reward is handmade by Lucy Young Ceramics and will be a similar shape to the below image, with a unique purple coloured dip and a newly commissioned Em Sauter (aka Pints & Panel) Hop Hideout design (pictures below). These will be delivered to Hop Hideout ready for collection. Collection time can be extended to fit your visit (up to 6 months from tankard ready time). We do need to hit 30 orders to meet Lucy's minimums, if this is not hit, this reward will be refunded. Be we hope it will be though :)

The T-shirt, hoodies and tote bag rewards will also be the above print from Em Sauter, Pints & Panels. Colour and style to be decided, but trust us, it'll be GOOD! To collect from Hop Hideout, Leah's Yard when printed. Collection time can be extended to fit your visit (up to 6 months from ready time). We do need to hit 10 orders of each to go to print. We can post these out but will need notifying when you order and will require an additional £4.00 for postage (which we can sort separately).

All those who pledge a reward on this Crowdfunder, your names will be added to our 'Supporters Artwork' to be displayed in store.
