If our stretch target is achieved, we will put the extra funding towards fixing some of the various building snags at Kwaximba Preschool and Creche.
Kwaximba Preschool and Creche is located deep in the Valley of 1000 Hills in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. There is a lot of need in this poverty-stricken part of the country, but one amazing young woman is doing all she can in the face of incredible adversity to make sure that the youngest members of the community get the brightest and happiest start to life possible.
Pinky is the head teacher and owner of the school, and her story is a moving one. Her mother, Promise, set up the school in 2011 in the back room of a local community hall, with the goal of creating a space for early childhood development learning for this marginalized area of Africa. As the years went on, Promise was successful in gaining sponsorship and the school grew, until finally, they were able to acquire a small school building of their own.
Tragically, Promise died of COVID in January 2021, leaving her daughter Pinky to take over the school. Since Pinky’s takeover, a theft occurred at the school, leaving the children without many of their learning resources, and their caretakers without the basic materials they need to feed and provide lessons. The school is now secure and protected against future break-ins, however, all of its vital resources are gone.
We are now appealing to our community of supporters to help us provide these basic resources at the school. We want to provide Pinky and her team with kitchen equipment such as a gas cooker, kettle, microwave, pots and pans and kitchen utensils. We also want to provide the children with the materials they need to aid their learning, such as books, puzzles and some toys.
We are hoping to raise £1,500 to help the school get back on its feet, but we can’t do it without your help. Please support our Crowdfunder to help this amazing team in the Valley of 1000 Hills!
