To try and recoup some, if not all, of the funds the final board members of The Village Green personally had to pay the Liquidators
I have recently found out that the 5 remaining board members of The Village Green have paid a total of £2315 in fees to the Liquidators.
This was £463 each and came out of their own personal funds!
The Board decided to go through the insolvency process, rather than simply close the business down, in order to protect staff and ensure that they were able to claim money owed to them (including redundancy payments where appropriate).
If the Board had not appointed Liquidators, the staff would have had to sue the board members individually for their wages and redundancy.
The process also ensured an orderly winding up of the company, which could otherwise have taken months to achieve. During that process, Board members and others could have been exposed to considerable financial risk if a creditor had chosen to take legal action.
This news has both shocked and saddened me a great deal. Many people are aware of the destruction that was caused by a former manager and the financial impact this had on the shop which ultimately led to its closure. However, most people do not realise the PERSONAL cost to the board members, along with the mental strain.
There were so many of us who have supported the shop over the years and were very sad to see this community project close. We congratulated the board members on all they had done, along with the staff and volunteers. All the board members efforts, time and monetary input was on a completely voluntary basis, with absolutely no financial gain to themselves.
I honestly do both appreciate and understand that times are very hard for us at the moment but I wondered if perhaps we could spare any small amount to help towards recouping this cost that ultimately saved more stress for the staff and ensured they were able to get what they were owed and also allowed the shop to close in a timely and dignified way.
As a former board member, myself, I cannot imagine how I could have coped with this huge, personal sacrifice.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing this and for any contribution you are able to make.
