Family members are a crucial lifeline to their loved ones. Isolation traps a victim or survivor in the abusive relationship and a family member staying in that person’s life can be the key to them leaving the relationship and prevent them returning. Many survivors don’t seek professional support, therefore they often rely on family members to provide them with the emotional and practical support they need.
Supporting and worrying about a loved one can be very difficult and can have a huge impact on a family member’s mental health, family life and general wellbeing. At FAMADA, we provide one-to-one emotional support for the family member to talk through their concerns, look after themselves and understand domestic abuse.
FAMADA is a remote service and provides free one-to-one sessions via zoom. We are a national charity and our support can be accessed by anyone in the UK. We do this to prevent barriers to accessing support.
We are currently fundraising for a pilot to work with family members and for our first six months running costs.
£15 could pay for the hosting of our website for one month to support loved ones to understand the issues and know they are not alone.
£30 could pay for a one-to-one session to support a family member
£180 could pay for a package of six weekly support sessions for a family member to understand domestic abuse, support themselves and continue to be a lifeline to their loved one in an abusive relationship
