To raise funds to enable us to include a community cast for Reception: The Wedding Present Musical and offer free / discounted tickets
We’re excited to bring Reception: The Wedding Present Musical a brand-new musical to Leeds in Summer 2025. ↓↓ PLEASE SCROLL DOWN↓ ↓ to see how your donation, no matter the size, will directly support the community side of the project helping us to:
1) Support us to provide free and low cost tickets:
2) Help us to form a community chorus:
Our goal is to raise £3,000 to ensure these community elements are free, accessible and fully supported.
What is Reception?
Inspired by and featuring the iconic songs of David Gedge, The Wedding Present and Cinerama the show uses the talents and stories of local people working alongside our professional cast of actor-musicians.
Reception is a funny, moving story about friendship, love, heartbreak, and new beginnings — everything you’d expect from a Wedding Present song. It follows a group of Leeds University friends as they navigate five life-changing years filled with graduations, funerals, weddings… and, of course, the receptions that follow.
Forty years after The Wedding Present formed in Leeds, we want this anniversary celebration to be more than a show — we want it to be a community-powered event that brings people together through art, music and shared experience.
Why your support matters
Your donation will help us:
Form a community chorus: We’re inviting volunteers from across Leeds and West Yorkshire to take part, no matter their background or experience. Your support will fund rehearsals, musical arrangements, and performance opportunities — ensuring everyone can feel the joy of singing and performing together.
Offer free and low-cost tickets: We believe theatre should be for everyone — not just those who can afford it. Your donation will help cover free and discounted tickets for local families, individuals on low incomes, and those who’ve never been to a show before.
Create real social impact: By connecting people through performance, we’re building confidence, friendship, and creativity. We’re using theatre to tackle isolation, celebrate community, and make sure culture belongs to everyone.
Be part of something special
This isn’t just a show — it’s a celebration of Leeds, its people, and its culture. By donating, you’re helping us create a performance where every voice is heard, and every person belongs.
All sponsors will be credited on our website and in the show programme. You can also help by:
