Initially we hoped to raise enough to get us through the winter months, but the extra income will help fund our running costs for longer and help us to continue our work in the community.
Long Eaton Art Room is a Community Arts Centre based in Derbyshire, but on the border of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire too. Our customer reach covers a wide area and much of the Midlands. We strongly believe in the therapeutic benefit of the arts for mental health and wellbeing and reducing isolation.
Long Eaton Art Room benefits the whole community. Our centre is a warm, welcoming space that brings people together and combats loneliness. Supporting livelihoods by providing creative workshops and courses and subsidised room hire facilities to local artists and community groups. Our range includes ceramics, stained glass, fused glass, watercolours, paper crafts, knitting and crochet, sketchbook club, life drawing, lino printing, school holiday activities, open studios, craft fairs, have a go days, exhibitions and many other workshops and events. We also provide affordable artists studio spaces allowing local people the oportunity to develop their own creative businesses. We pride ourselves in welcoming all ages and abilities throughout the year.
The cost of living crisis is impacting our small charity. Our gas costs alone are rising by 155%. Add in additional electricity costs, increased wages, higher materials costs, etc and it all adds up. Long Eaton Art Room is a self funded non-profit making charity which is dependent on small grants from other organisations and charities and on individual donations. We cannot afford to pass these additional costs onto our centre users, who are already facing their own cost of living crisis
The current energy crisis and cost of living crisis is having a massive impact on our finances. All donations received in this appeal will go directly into covering the running costs of the charity which will in turn help us to stay open, keep the heat and lights on and continue to provide our services at subsidised rates for the benefit of the whole community. Providing a warm safe space to meet with others and learn new arts and craft skills, improving wellbeing and reducing isolation.
UPDATE:
