If the idea of sustainable style fills you with images of worn out kaftans, or sends your bank account into panic, you're not alone. But why should sustainable style only be available to people who can afford it, or offer such a limited range of style and choice? Every woman deserves to be able to look and feel amazing, without worrying about the impact their love of fashion has on the planet! (Spoiler: the fashion industry is one of the biggest environmental polluters.)
Social Style's clothes hire service helps you look and feel fabulous without the pangs of guilt fashion purchases often bring, because renting instead of buying new is better for the environment (and your wallet!). We're a pre-trading women-led start up with a vision to provide widespread affordable access to high quality everyday clothing from well known high end brands and sustainable designers.
WE HAVE TWO CORE AIMS
1. Provide a stepping stone for people across the UK to switch to a more sustainable lifestyle, by renting instead of buying new clothes.
Social Style will disrupt the fast fashion industry's "buy, wear once and discard" model, offering a mainstream alternative without compromising on quality of product or service. Members will be able to hire clothes from high end high street brands and prestigious designers. We'll also partner with local ethical designers to offer their products alongside recognised household brands.
2. Tackle some of the image-based challenges created by social inequality in the UK.
Social Style will partner with employment service providers and social justice charities like Funeral Link, to offer their clients free or subsidised hire when they need it most. Our company profits will support existing social and environmental justice organisations in delivering their goals. And by operating as a B-Corp, ethics and sustainability will be woven into everything our business does.

It's free to send them back at the end of the month and you can swap out for new pieces - or hang on to them for another month! We'll take care of laundry, but everything comes with care instructions in case you want to wear again and again.
IN THE BEGINNING
I was inspired to set up Social Style after seeing the fallout of Stacey Dooley's documentary Fashion's Dirty Secrets. People everywhere expressed outrage at the devastating impact fashion was having on communities and the environment after the show aired, but there was almost no change to people's shopping habits. I realised this was because there was no credible alternative. More ethical, sustainable options were generally either way more expensive than most people would pay, or involved hours of trawling through vintage & second hand shops. Realistic alternatives still don't exist. So I decided Social Style would fix this, bringing rental of high quality affordable womenswear to people anywhere in the UK. Using my own skills of finding the cream of the pre-owned crop and running strict quality controls on everything we find, the company will offer everything our customers want on a slick website at the click of a button.
