Hundreds of low paid NHS workers in the Unite Union including cleaners, catering staff, porters, domestics and others are striking at Barts NHS Trust in East London.
They are rightly angry that they have not received a lump-sum payment paid to other NHS workers due to the Covid pandemic. These workers helped keep the NHS going in the pandemic. They deserve to be paid like everyone else.
But just like doctors who are returning to the picket line this week - and nurses and others who have taken to the picket line - this is also a fight for a properly funded National Health Service. The NHS can't survive or function without a a properly paid workforce that is treated fairly and with respect.
