Backworth Colliery Band has been part of the local community for generations.

Formed in 1886 as part of Backworth’s mining community, the band has a long history of bringing people together through brass music and maintaining a proud connection with the area’s industrial heritage.     

Today, we want to make sure that tradition has a strong future.

Why we need your support

Running a brass band involves much more than turning up and playing.

There are instruments to maintain, music to purchase, rehearsals to support and the many costs involved in preparing for concerts, community appearances and other performances.

Our constitution sets out our purpose as promoting brass banding, helping children and young people develop their musical abilities, improving standards across the band and providing entertainment to the public through concerts.  

Donations through this Crowdfunder will help us continue working towards those aims and support the ongoing future of Backworth Colliery Band.

What your donation can help support

Money raised will be used to support the band’s activities and development. Depending on where the need is greatest, this may include:

• maintaining and repairing instruments
• purchasing music and equipment
• supporting rehearsals and performances
• developing and encouraging players
• supporting community performances and activities
• helping meet the everyday costs involved in keeping the band active

Every contribution, whatever the amount, makes a difference.

More than just a band

Backworth Colliery Band is part of a much wider brass band tradition with deep roots in former mining communities across the North East.

For us, protecting that heritage also means looking forward: welcoming new players, developing musicians, performing for local audiences and making sure future generations have the opportunity to experience and participate in brass band music.

The band’s objectives have always included making music accessible and providing opportunities for people to develop musically, regardless of age or ability.
