Aim

We’re helping single parent families and disabled people in BS13 to access free meals and wellbeing support at a tough time of year.

Who are we, and what is our project about?

Heart of BS13 is a small charity that has worked for 35 years to improve health and wellbeing in Hartcliffe and Withywood, South Bristol - an area ranked among the top 10% most deprived in the UK, where many residents face financial hardship, poor health and limited access to support.

We provide services and opportunities that tackle health inequalities, including free meals, volunteering opportunities, training programmes, cookery lessons, green education and activities that build confidence, resilience and social connections.

This winter, we are seeking funding to continue our community food and wellbeing programme, supporting BS13 families experiencing the combined pressures of food and fuel poverty. Funding will enable us to keep our community freezer stocked with free, nutritious meals for single-parent households and disabled people, who often face the toughest financial challenges. It will also help us run community meals where people can share food and connect with others.

Our sessions also act as a springboard to wider wellbeing support, helping residents reduce isolation, build confidence and access other opportunities offered by Heart of BS13. By reducing immediate financial pressure and improving practical life skills, our project helps families achieve long-term financial and personal resilience.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We’re reaching out to our network for support so we can continue this vital work throughout the winter. Grant funding is increasingly oversubscribed, and without extra help, we risk being unable to deliver the services that local families depend upon during the winter months.

As a small charity, every donation has a meaningful impact. Your donation will directly help BS13 residents manage the challenges of winter, giving families the resources, skills and encouragement they need to stay well and move toward greater stability.
