This year is Sunflowers 30th anniversary. We started off in 1986 as Liverpool Cancer Care Self Help Group. Since then we've helped literally thousands of local people cope with a cancer diagnosis. Sunflowers is an independent charity which exists to improve the lives of local people affected by cancer: patients, survivors and carers.
Last year we delivered over 13,000 hours of support to local people and this year we are on target to provide over 20,000 hours of vital support, from counselling to exercise classes, complementary therapies, support groups, art and craft therapies, skills workshops and much more.
Although we receive about half of our funding from the NHS each year we still need to raise over £50,000 annually to keep our vital service going. This appeal goes out to everyone in Liverpool. Sadly in this city more than half of the population will experience cancer at some point in their life. Our service is vital.
Yes we've chosen a huge target to reflect our huge achievement in reaching 30 years of service BUT- if we can raise this amount, it will mean we can expand and develop so we can help even more local people living with or beyond cancer in Liverpool. Unlike the large national charities we do not spend anything on marketing and PR so every penny we raise is spent on providing much needed cancer support.
If everyone in Liverpool gave us just £1 that would enable us to remain open for a full five years!
Please give what you can to help us continue supporting your friends, neighbours and family who are living with or beyond cancer.
