Aim

A radical campaign that highlights the interconnection of our ecosystems and how reforestation is key to restoring these complex systems.

 A pioneering new environmental Crowdfunder by Plant One which aims to raise awareness and advocate for environmental restoration by highlighting the hidden connections between Oceans and Forests, putting this science into practice by restoring 500 hectares of key costal land

The message of the research is simple: in order to save our oceans, we must establish more woodlands.

The Science

Inspired by a groundbreaking scientific review published in July 2025 by Exeter University, and commissioned by the Woodland Trust. The science shows that by restoring forests, fish populations can be restocked, sea grass and kelp can be revived, and crucially - plankton decline can be reversed. The research also showcases how salmonids and sea birds are essential for forest health.

Additionally by restoring our forests, our oceans receive multiple benefits such as reducing pollution run-off, reducing sewage overflow, reducing siltation and restoring essential stabilising effects such as water flow.

Aims

• Raise awareness around the reports findings
• Foster greater collaboration between conservation organisations
• Promote reforestation and seagrass/kelp bed restoration in key areas as per the reports findings.
•  Raise awareness of the Flowscape, a holistic understanding of the interconnections of our ecosystems and the continued nutrient exchange between them
• Engage and enthuse a wider audience to support conservation across sectors
• Reforest 500 Hectares of land in key areas that will have a greater impact on marine and coastal health
• Work with the community to provide, woodland creation volunteer days, woodland well being days, woodland education days, all outreach days to be inclusive of families and marginalised groups. 

Objectives

• Create an additional 12 volunteer and community days across Cornwall
• Engage with new landowners to ensure reforestation of 500 Hectares of targeted land for reforestation. Using the Plant One reforestation model (find out how Plant One creates woodlands here)
• Reforest 500 hectares of land.

The Plant One reforestation model

Plant One is making giant strides to restore the endangered Celtic rainforest in the South West. Our hyper-oceanic region is the best place to grow this rare habitat which is crucial in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.

Founded in 2021 with no initial funding, we’ve created 242,000 sqm of new woodlands and are on track to meet our 25 year target of 3 million. Our approach focuses on long-term nature recovery, not just planting trees or sequestering carbon. And it’s working – we are seeing tree survival rates at 86% (well above the 56% industry average), and additional species and natural regeneration already returning alongside our planting.

Plant One has proven experience in delivering woodland creation and management projects which positively impact the SW’s waterways. We’ve worked on multiple temperate rainforest projects that will go on to deliver water quality benefits in future generations.

This project successfully funded on 11th December 2025
