Aim

Help us share the good news about the multiple benefits of woodland creation being planted by landowners and communities in South Wales

About Us

We are Stump Up For Trees, a community-led charity enabling woodland creation and nature restoration on land that is both ecologically and agriculturally poor.  To date, we've planted over 200,000 trees with farmers and landowners in the Brecon Beacons area, South Wales.

We plant hedgerows, shelterbelts, agroforestry schemes and new native woodlands to enhance biodiversity, complement natural regeneration, provide natural flood management, improve and restore agricultural landscapes and support our community. We are growing-on over 90,000 saplings at our tree nursery this year. This helps us plan and plant diverse species mixes that are suitable for our widely diverse schemes. It also ensures we are planting trees that have the best chance of reaching establishment. We are powered by our volunteers in everything we do.

Mapping the way

We want to spread the word more widely among our volunteers, landowners and the community, about our work and the multiple benefits of more trees in our landscape. We aim to do this both physically (through information boards at our tree nursery and at our key woodland creation sites) and digitally (on our website and using QR codes).

We're going to combine a bit of art, science and play to share the good news, bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out.

With the funds raised:

• We will create physical and digital resources to share information about our key woodland creation sites and the tree nursery.
• We will run a competition with local schools to design wooden marker posts for all the different tree species at our nursery (giving students an opportunity to visit the tree nursery; the posts based on the winning design will be multisensory and created from local, sustainably sourced materials).
• We’ll design an online ‘Nursery Trail’ on our website, to explain why we are growing our own trees from seed, and why we are growing saplings on into bigger, hardier trees that will be more resilient in the upland climate and the poor terrain we plant in.
• We will design and install information boards at our key woodland creation sites, explaining (through the use of QR codes) the multiple impacts of our woodland creation schemes, including enhanced biodiversity, natural flood management, better soil and water quality, benefits to agricultural production and sustainable timber.
