Aim

To exhibit the damage of storm Goretti through print. Tell stories of fallen trees, individual connection, and tales from the land

I’m in the early stages of a new art project. I’ve been collecting tree rings from trees that have fallen in recent storms in Cornwall and printing with them.

The plan? To gather as many tree rings as I can (I currently have 35), prep them properly, and exhibit the prints alongside information about the tree, where it grew, and (hopefully) a story about that tree or landscape. Trees have always been meeting places for community, and I want to use these trees as meeting place even after they have fallen.

I started this project on 10th January by messaging local people on social media to see if anyone had timber I could collect and print with and the response was amazing. Hundreds of people got in touch offering wood, sharing how sad they felt about fallen trees, or telling me how happy they were that someone was doing something creative with them. It basically felt like a lot of people want this to happen. Which is good, because so do I.

The BBC have been interested in the idea and in the past 2 weeks, I’ve been on the radio, filmed for Spotlight, and interviewed for an online article. All pretty mad.

There’s a lot of momentum. There’s public interest. There’s an opportunity to make something beautiful from a devastating situation.

What there isn’t… is money.

I’m not asking for donations, there are far more important causes in the world that need that kind of support. What I’m hoping for is something mutually beneficial. You help fund the project, and in return you get a handmade piece of art. I guess a sponsorship?

This is a labour-intensive, costly, and time-consuming process. The more sponsors I have, the more I can get properly stuck in.

In return, you’ll receive a handmade original print from the project. These prints will be from trees fallen in Storm Goretti in Cornwall. They’ll be exhibited as part of the wider collection, but they won’t be available anywhere else. So, this is your chance to support the project and own something exclusive.

If you sponsor:

£20 – Small print (approx. 200mm x 200mm)
£40 – Medium print (approx. 300mm x 300mm)
£60 – Large print (approx. 400mm x 400mm+)

I can’t promise specific species just yet, I’m still in the early stages of printing, but I can promise they’ll be beautiful. I’ve collected some genuinely stunning rings from some very special Cornish trees.

All prints will be mounted onto backing board and ready to frame.

If you’d like to help turn storm damage into something lasting and have some lovely art on your wall, I’d be very grateful for your support.

Your support goes directly towards the real, hands-on costs of making this work. This includes fuel for collecting timber from across Cornwall, paper (which is surprisingly expensive), ink, workshop fees, sanding discs and belts that I get through quickly, chainsaw fuel, oil and replacement chains, planer blades, and the many hours of time that go into each piece. Every contribution helps keep this project running and the work evolving.
