Aim

Help us repair storm-damaged covers so cricket can continue safely for our players & community.

We are Backworth Cricket Club, based at Backworth Miners Welfare Hall. Our club is made up of players of all ages and abilities, from juniors taking their first steps in the game to senior teams competing in local leagues. Cricket at Backworth isn’t just about sport — it’s about community, friendship, and keeping a proud local tradition alive.

Why are we crowdfunding?

During Storm Floris (4-5th August 2025), our covers were severely damaged, leaving our pitch exposed to the weather.

Covers protect our cricket pitch from rain and bad weather, keeping it safe, playable, and in good condition. This helps prevent cancellations, reduces injury risk, and ensures our club and community can enjoy cricket all season. Without these essential facilities, matches are at risk of being cancelled and our wickets at risk of degradation, and our players — especially juniors — are missing out on valuable game time.

We are crowdfunding to repair and replace this vital equipment so that cricket can continue safely at Backworth. This project also meets funding criteria as it protects sporting facilities, increases opportunities for participation, and ensures long-term sustainability of grassroots sport in the community.

How we’ll spend the money raised:

We are committed to being transparent about how your donations will be used. Every penny will go directly towards repairing and replacing the damaged equipment, which has been costed at £5000.

Community impact:

Backworth Cricket Club is more than a sports team — it’s a community club. We bring together children, young people, and adults from across the area, offering opportunities to be active, make friends, and enjoy the game.

Our ground is part of Backworth Miners Welfare, home not only to cricket but also golf, croquet, archery, and pool teams. Local residents use our facilities as a place to gather, play, and socialise. By supporting this appeal, you’re helping preserve a shared community space and keeping cricket alive for future generations.

How you can help:

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to repairing our side screens and covers. You can support by:

- Making a pledge – even a small amount makes a difference.

- Sharing our campaign with friends, family, and on social media to spread the word.

- Getting involved – if you’re local, come along to matches and see the impact of your support!
