Help raise awareness to fight the planning appeal seeking to extract gravel next to the Thames between Cholsey, Wallingford and Crowmarsh

by Vicky Beardall in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Stop the Riverside Gravel Pit is a campaign group for South Oxfordshire residents to oppose the approval of a gravel pit application that endangers our scenic riverside environment.

The planning application by London Rock Supplies to extract gravel at White Cross Farm next to the Thames Path in Cholsey, Wallingford, was refused by Oxfordshire County Council in September 2024. London Rock appealed to the Secretary of State and an Inquiry has been launched.

We believe:

- the proposal would cause unacceptable harm to the landscape, ecology, hydrology and recreational use of this precious green space and river corridor

- that proposed mitigation measures are inadequate and intrusive

- that there is no demonstrable need for gravel extraction at this site, and the speculative application is not in line with Local Minerals Plans

We already have a quarry nearby at New Barn Farm. Help say no to more gravel pits here!

Donations to our Crowdfunder will be used to raise public awareness of the Inquiry process April-July 2025. Our first task requiring funds is to publicise the Inquiry and our campaign through printed banners and posters (alongside our web site and use of social media).
