Everyone expected a final decision on 27th February on Gatwick Airport’s proposal to expand. But there was a surprise outcome! The Secretary of State actually agreed with us and other objectors that Gatwick’s proposal should be rejected. BUT. She then put forward a different proposal, with more rigorous controls on noise and transport and said she was “minded to” grant permission for that.
The Airport now has until 24 April to respond. And then we will have another chance! There will be further consultation, so another opportunity for us to make the case that the expansion should not happen. We also have to make sure that the Airport doesn’t secure any backsliding on the important gains that we made on noise and transport.
So please help us to use this golden opportunity to get the Government to make the right decision as we continue to engage the legal, qualified expert team that has held Gatwick accountable to date via the hearings, but they will need some funding.
Please donate what you can to help us to ensure Gatwick pays for the ramification of a new runway locally and climate change wise!
