HACAN are campaigning to stop Heathrow expansion and protect local communities from increased emisisons and noise and air pollution.

We need to build a fighting fund to help campaign against the proposed Heathrow expansion. We know that we can't compete with their deep pockets so every pound raised will help us try to level the playing field.

The expansion will result in:

  • 260,000 more flights out of Heathrow every year - that's 700 additional planes overhead everyday.
  • The demolition of at least 750 homes and a further 5,000 rendered unihabitable resulting in the destruction of 5 villages.
  • Diversion of 5 rivers and the eradication of the southern part of the Colne Valley park
  • Increased noise pollution for over 2 million people across London and the Home Counties.
  • An additional 9 megatonnes of carbon pollution every year.
  • 175,000 additional trups on local transport networks, increasing congestion and air pollution.

There will be a planning application process that will likely involve a public inquiry. We will need to be able to counter the arguments put forward by Heathrow. There's a whole range of ways we could spend any money raised including:

  • Commissioning a range of studies looking at the economic, environmental & health impacts of expansion
  • Engaging legal advice on Heathrow's proposals
  • Recruitment of political and media agency support
  • Seeking expert advice from planning professionals
  • Research into impact of Heathrow arrivals on overflown communities.
  • Scoping document to set out terms of reference for a full impact study of the costs and benefits of night flights – including economic, environmental and health analysis.
  • Scoping document looking at the best mechanism for capturing the health impacts of concentrated flight paths that will be introduced as part of the airspace modernisation programme.
  • Purchase additional noise monitoring equipment to be used for community assessments in areas where there is currently no monitoring undertaken by DfT or Heathrow.
  • Organise a events in Parliament and at political party conferences to take our messages to the heart of government.a
  • Public survey of local communities around Heathrow to demonstrate the impact that the airport has on their daily lives.
  • Supporting local campaign groups to organise events and priduce campaign materials
