Cross the border from England into historic Radnorshire and Breconshire and you are met with stunning upland landscapes, interspersed with rural communities and small market towns. Agriculture and tourism provide a living for many of the hard-working people who call this area home. Family farms are handed down through generations and there are favourite campsites and guest houses that visitors return to year after year. However, property developers from Scotland (Bute Energy), backed by offshore investors are intent on building industrial-scale wind turbines, massive pylons and other infrastructure that goes with them across our unique landscape, for private gain. These giant turbines are not green, they’re as unreliable as the wind and can never provide a permanent, stable source of energy.
RE-think has already raised public and political awareness about the truth behind the rhetoric. It has held developers to account, broadened the campaign across Wales and provided a robust and professional objection to Bute Energy’s planning application for an industrial-scale wind farm in the beautiful Radnor Forest. But more funds are urgently needed to employ more time from professional legal, environmental, landscape and planning experts to help us fight developer’s plans, attend public hearing alongside large national organisations and put forward the strongest possible opposition to the Welsh and UK Governments.
