The Stop the Fly-tipping project will run for longer, with more workshops that teach...
Aim: We're crowdfunding to support a youth-led project to stop fly-tipping in green spaces and hedgerows in the community of BS13 South Bristol
The Green Influencers are a group of young people, aged between 11 and 19, who are passionate about protecting the natural environment and determined to tackle the problem of fly-tipping that blights our community.
One of the biggest environmental problems here is the abandoned supermarket trolleys that get filled up with household decorating waste and building rubbish and then get dumped in our hedgerows and green spaces. This sort of waste is dangerous to wildlife and poisonous for the environment and because it happens so much it invites further littering and fly-tipping in our community.
Our charity, Heart of BS13, has been working with the Green Influencers since last year, and we support them to develop and lead their own social action projects. This year, they are determined to tackle the problem of abandoned supermarket trolleys and the fly-tipping that is associated with them, and we are crowdfunding to support their project!
The project
The Green Influencers want to get to the bottom of why people fly-tip and what can be done about it. They also want to raise awareness in the community about the damage that fly-tipping causes and how everyone can play their part to prevent it.
They know that one of the reasons trolleys end up being abandoned is because so many people living here don’t have cars and use the trolleys to get their food shopping home, which then get left on the street and filled with rubbish.
The Green Influencers want to start talking to the supermarkets and Bristol City Council, to lobby for the installation of vandal-proof trolley parks across BS13. Installing these trolley parks will allow the supermarkets to collect them regularly from established locations, rather than having to hunt around the streets as they currently do (which means trolleys are left lying around for months).
The young people feel that this is a similar issue to single use plastic bags and that the supermarkets must play their part, alongside the community, to put a stop to this!
Our crowdfunder
Our crowdfunder is part of the Save Our Wild Isles campaign, which means that all donations (of up to £250) will be tripled. So, for every £1 you donate to this project, the Green Influencers will receive £3!
What your donation will fund
The Save our Wild Isles Crowdfunder will fund Green Influencer workshops and activities within our community to:
• develop fly-tipping prevention strategies
• clear up existing fly-tipping
• raise awareness in the community about the impact of fly-tipping on the environment
• lobby the seven supermarkets based in BS13 to set up trolley parks
• help protect our environment and natural habitats
Thank you from the Green Influencers and Heart of BS13 for your support!
