Aim

Stones is a cinematic short film about grief, childhood and human connection after the arrival of Afghan refugee families in Wales.

WELCOME

Hi, I’m Neet Mohan, the writer and director of Stones.

This is a project I’ve been developing over the past few years. From the beginning, I wanted to create a film that felt intimate, cinematic and emotionally truthful - a story rooted in Wales.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the page and support the film.

ABOUT THE FILM

Stones is a cinematic short film set in Cardiff in 2021, inspired by the arrival of Afghan refugee families in Wales following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban.

Told through the eyes of a Welsh grandmother and her young granddaughter, the film explores grief, childhood and the connections that can form between strangers.

Set across everyday spaces like church halls and play parks, the story reflects how distant global events can ripple into ordinary lives.

Stones is a story about empathy, compassion and human connection.

WHY I’M MAKING THIS FILM

In 2021, while living in Cardiff Bay, I walked to a nearby play park and found it suddenly filled with children and families who had arrived from the other side of the world.

It was a moment that stayed with me, as did the kindness, warmth and sense of community that followed from people across Wales.

I wanted to create a film that felt human and emotionally truthful - one that focused on connection rather than division.

Stones grew from that experience.

CAST & FILMMAKERS

NEET MOHAN — WRITER / DIRECTOR

Stones marks my directorial debut and is shaped by my own experiences.

I’m an actor working across theatre, TV and film, including Casualty, Line of Duty, Doctor Who, No Offence and Ready Player One.

As a filmmaker, I’m interested in stories that feel grounded, cinematic and rooted in human experience.

With Stones, I want to tell a story that feels intimate, human and deeply connected to Wales and the community I’ve lived in.

DI BOTCHER — ANWEN

I’m incredibly proud to have award-winning Welsh actress Di Botcher attached to play the role of Anwen.

Di is one of Wales’ most respected stage and screen actors, known for her work in Twin Town, Stella, In My Skin, Dream Horse and Casualty.

There’s a warmth, humour and emotional honesty to Di’s performances that feels completely right for the world of Stones.

Alongside our lead cast, we’ll also be working with performers and communities local to Cardiff to help keep the film grounded in authenticity.

VISUAL APPROACH

Visually, Stones will combine grounded realism with a cinematic and emotionally intimate style inspired by contemporary independent cinema.

Using natural light, handheld camerawork and soft, textured imagery, the film will focus on atmosphere, silence and small human moments rather than dramatic set pieces.

We want the camera to feel emotionally close to the characters, allowing performances and atmosphere to carry the emotional weight of the story.

WHERE THE FILM IS GOING

Following production, we hope to take Stones into the international film festival circuit and share the film with audiences both in Wales and beyond.

Our aim is to create a film that feels local in its setting but universal in its themes of grief, compassion and connection.

We hope the film can connect with audiences through its emotional honesty, cinematic style and distinctly Welsh perspective.

HOW THE FUNDING WILL BE USED

Every contribution to the campaign will go directly towards helping us make the film to the highest standard possible and support the journey of Stones beyond production.

Here’s a breakdown of how the remaining crowdfunding target will support the film:

SUPPORTING THE FILM

We’ve already raised half of the film’s overall budget and are now looking to raise the final £7,000 needed to bring Stones to life.

The funding raised through this campaign will go directly towards cast and crew, camera and sound equipment, locations, post-production and festival distribution.

Independent filmmaking only happens through collaboration and the support of people who believe in stories like this.

If Stones connects with you in any way, we’d be hugely grateful for your support in helping us bring the film to the screen.

With your support, we hope to create a film that can connect with audiences both in Wales and internationally through the festival circuit and beyond.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit the page and support the project.
