 New stretch target

Due to the overwhelming support we have received so far, we're going to be able to cover the costs of all of our planned Summer of Fun activities! If we reach our new stretch target of £8000, we'll be able to continue more creative activities into the Autumn too - which means even more people will be able to get involved in the local area.

Following the success of the Stoke Village Fun Day 2019, The Village Hub, Stoke Traders and Residents Association (STARS), and Diverse Events CIC are once again bringing Stoke Village alive with our annual Fun Day event on 17th July 2022.

This year we are going even bigger - taking over more of Blockhouse Park, and extending our Summer Events (to run during July, August & September) with brand new art activities, and the return of Sunset Sounds.

Here’s what your contributions to our crowdfunder will support:

  • Stoke Village Fun Day - A full day of entertainment is planned, bringing the village alive. We can look forward to stalls, inflatables, live music and entertainment, as well as a dog show!
  • Summer Art Activities - Free art workshops during July, August & September, exploring the nature, culture and heritage of Blockhouse Park. Tryout making Sun Prints, have a go at Leaf Pounding, or even get high-tech and make something in Augmented Reality!!
  • Sunset Sounds - Open-air live music events at the top of Blockhouse Park, in the historic redoubt fort. Enjoy the amazing panoramic views across Plymouth, and soak up some weird and wonderful sounds!

Who are we:

The Village Hub is a place for residents of Stoke & Morice Town to meet, create, care and grow. Our activities radiate outwards from a previously disused retail space on the high street in Stoke Village that we took on and renovated in Autumn 2020.

Our mission is to build on existing community spirit, working with local people to bring a bit more colour into all our lives. We work on the frontline providing opportunities that enable anyone in our community to connect through learning, signposting, cultural activities and having fun in a safe and caring environment. We host a Community Larder, a local Veg Box scheme, regular drop-in & advice sessions, community litter-picks, peer learning workshops, a monthly Culture Club, and art & craft and gardening groups.

You can find out more on our website - thevillagehub.org.uk - and on our Facebook page

What, when & how?

Our plans for the Stoke Village Fun Day are well underway, with permissions agreed and in place. Stoke Traders & Residents,  local businesses and local people are all ready to go, and excited to recreate the success of the pre-pandemic community spectacular we held in 2019 when we closed Devonport Road for the first time. We’re so proud of the community spirit in our area, and we want to make sure that there’s even more for everyone to enjoy this year!!

Over the last 6 months, The Village Hub has been working with our new Creative Community Builder to find out more about all of the talented and creative folk who live in the area. For our Summer Art Activities, we want to employ a range of local residents and Plymouth-based creatives to support more people to come together and try new things. Our existing art activities are always popular, and often fully booked - so this will give us a chance to make sure more people can take part.

We have also been working to support local musicians to get together and play music at Blockhouse Park. Sunset Sounds was established in 2021, and we’re looking forward to this growing and becoming a more regular event during the summer! Your support will mean we can work with local residents to bring free, relaxed live music events to Blockhouse Park and bring people together to enjoy this in the open air.

Our target

We have set ourselves an ambitious target for this project, and we are hoping to secure 50% of our target via Devon and Cornwall Police Community Resilience Fund. This means if we can raise at least £3250 from our backers, the Resilience Fund would match this so that we can hit our £6500 target. We are also hoping that other local match funders will want to come on board too - your support for our project will demonstrate to them how important our activity is in the local area.

Get involved!

This Crowdfunder is a great opportunity for YOU to get involved and help get these projects off the ground. We’ve prepared some excellent rewards to thank you for your support
