Who are we?
Stockton Cricket Club, established in 1816, is a historic cricket club based in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England. The club has been playing at the Grangefield Cricket Ground since 1891.
We are proud to be at the heart of our community, bringing together sports enthusiasts and locals in one, welcoming environment.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Following the England & Wales Cricket Boards launch of their Inspiring Generations strategy, our cricket committee looked at the clubs current offering to the local community and its members and noted the current demographic needed addressing. The club have launched its ladies & girls softball teams to offer an introduction to cricket and hope to further this by introducing a hardball team in the near future making it a fun, friendly and safe environment to be active, meet new people and enjoy the merits of team sports.
Similarly, with the ever increasing push to maintain a healthy junior section to keep players in the game and with the lack of cricket within state schools, the club feel we need to try to actively engage with younger players outside our current team offering to teach them the game of cricket and allow them to enjoy fun and engaging sessions, with the aim to keep their interest and make full use of the club facilities at the heart of the community.
One of the main issues noted to be off-putting to potential participants was open showering and changing facilities. The club wish to modernise their facilities to appeal to more of the wider community.
The aim of this funding push is to make the ground and its facilities more open to everyone to safeguard the future and keep cricket at Grangefield for generations to come.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We intend to spend the money raised to improve our current facilities by:
- improving the changing and showering facilities to encompass new showers and showering cubicles
- to offer coaching and taster sessions run by fully qualified coaching teams free of charge to encourage girls, ladies and juniors to take up cricket
- encourage the wider community to use the cricket club facilities as a social venue to meet and socialise
