The U15 Stockport Rugby team have the chance to represent Stockport Rugby Club and play internationally in a tournament in Portugal in April 2025.
23 lads from the team are hoping to travel to Portugal and play against teams from around the world.
It is a fantastic opportunity for the lads to go abroad together and represent their club, develop their rugby skills further and share this amazing experience but it comes at a price - they need to pay for flights, accommodation and kit which as we all know, these days, is not easy to afford.
The team started when the boys were just 5 years old. Through fantastic commitment and coaching at the club, the squad has grown and developed and they are currently playing at a high level and they won the Cheshire Cup last year beating some very good opposition. It would be a great reward for the players and their coaches to be able to take this opportunity and experience playing internationally.
The boys are committed, doing their usual training and also additional fitness sessions with push ups in puddles being a team favourite. It is a family affair with parents welcome to join in to push the boys and lead by example. In the rain, mud, snow and sometimes sunshine, they always show up.
There are a number of fundraising events being arranged for the boys to show their commitment to raising the full amount needed, last week they started their fundraising efforts and held a raffle at the club during Super Saturday, while the first 3 adult Stockport teams played, they sold tickets, sorted them and drew the winners - who went home happy with a bottle of something special.
Plans are now being made for more events and opportunities for the lads to raise funds and we will keep you updated as they are arranged.
The donations and funds raised will be used to contribute to the cost of flights, accommodation and kit for all the boys on the tour.
