We want to raise £1500 in deposits to stand Green Party candidates in all 3 Stockport constituencies for the first time.
Stockport Green Party would like everyone in the borough to have the opportunity to vote Green in a General Election for the first time, but we need to raise £1500 in deposits to make that happen. We have already selected 3 excellent candidates – Helena Mellish (Stockport), Alex Drury (Cheadle) and Graham Reid (Hazel Grove). You can find out about them on our website (www.stockportgreenparty.org.uk) and we will add more nearer the election.
Since the last General Election in 2019 Stockport Green Party has grown in influence. We have worked hard to secure our first 3 Councillors, who are already making a significant impact in the Council on both local and international issues. Locally their motion has paved the way for ‘dire conditions’ in Lancashire Hill flats to be tackled, while they have enabled a project to restore a pond in Reddish Vale to be funded.. They also succeeded in persuading the Council to add its voice to the many calling for “an urgent permanent bilateral ceasefire in Gaza, Israel and the rest of Palestine and to make every effort to resume the peace process.”
Electing and supporting Councillors is challenging financially for a Party with no big corporate donors, so we are relying on small donations from people to enable us to stand in the General Election. If you can chip in, however little, that would be much appreciated. At a time when some major political parties are wavering in their commitment to addressing the climate emergency we need a strong presence from the Green Party to argue for the action which is desperately needed.
