To refurbish the kitchen of the community-owned Kings Arms Inn, in Stockland, Devon.
In 2018, Stockland Community Pub Ltd (SCPL) - a Community Benefit Society - raised £278,051 in Community Shares from individual members of the local community. The purpose was to purchase the freehold of The Kings Arms Inn, which had been closed in March 2013, as a community-owned pub, for the benefit of the local community. The purchase is now complete and we need to refurbish the pub ready for opening. While it was closed, prior to our taking ownership, internal leaks caused major damage to internal walls, ceilings and floors, including a flood in the kitchen. This project will help to bring the kitchen back to a usable state.
Once it is re-opened, the community-owned pub will be a free house that serves local and guest beers and sensibly priced, freshly cooked, good food prepared using locally sourced ingredients. It will be the heart of the village as a place for social gathering, cultural activities, somewhere to meet people and exchange information, and it will promote a cohesive and friendly community in the area. Profits will be invested back into the pub, and into developing new facilities and services for the community.
