Community led lights for Stithians, keeping displays going, adding new ones, and bringing the village together through the Festival of Light

Stithians Christmas Lights

A village tradition kept alive by its people
Every winter, Stithians comes together under the glow of lights that have become part of our village since the dark days of Covid.  What many do not realise is that our display is created entirely by volunteers and almost entirely from second hand, recycled or reloved decorations. Nothing here is professionally run or funded. Most pieces have been handed down from nearby towns or saved from being thrown away, then rebuilt, rewired and brought back to life by our team of passionate individuals.

We raise and spend every penny ourselves. Some years a local business donates to our cause, but more often we work year round so that we are able to buy the odd new feature, but most of our fundraising efforts go into keeping the existing lights safe, repaired and working. The Festival of Lights event itself is surprisingly costly to run. Local businesses give a little to help, but it barely touches the true cost. Even so, the joy it brings makes every effort worthwhile.

This display belongs to everyone in Stithians. It is built from community spirit, local pride and a huge amount of kindness. When the children arrive with their lanterns and the tractors illuminate and drive through the village, you can feel the community come together.

Your support helps us:

• Repair and refurbish our second hand displays

• Keep the switch on event running safely

• Add new pieces when we can

• Create moments that bring neighbours together

If you choose to donate, you are helping to keep a village tradition shining brightly for another year. Thank you for being part of it.
