Aim: to rescue, neuter, foster to good health and either rehome or rerelease the stray and feral cat colonies of Newlands Rd, Stirchley, B30
Willow & Wynter’s Cat Rescue and Fostering Project (named after our two adopted rescue kittens) evolved from conversations with residents of Newlands Road about how to help local stray and feral cats, which seem to be in abundance.
Roxie and her partner adopted 2 rescue cats, Ethel & Ernö, 12 years ago, and recently adopted kittens born in their neighbour’s garden. Their 2 neighbours adopted and neutered the rest of the litter and mum, Kits.
In early October, another stray cat, affectionately named ‘Ginty’ by her care-givers, surprised us with 2 kittens. She roams with a colony of 3 feral males. Thanks to a team effort, Ginty and her kittens were rescued on Monday 5th October, and are being fostered in our front room, booked for neutering w/c 26th October at Fivelands Vets, Moseley, who we use for our other cats.
We have had a helpful discussion with Birmingham City Council Animal Welfare Officer, who confirmed they sadly have no statutory duty for cats, and themselves refer cases on to RSPCA and Cats Protection League, who I have also approached for help to cover neutering costs via the National Neutering Helpline. In the interim, we have started this crowdfunder to contribute to costs of cat crates, food, vet health check, vaccinations, flea and worming treatment as well as neutering. The target is set for £1,800 which should cover all basic costs for these six cats. Should we be in the very fortunate situation of raising above this target, or have any funds left, we’ll use these should any complication arise with cat illnesses, help more local stray and feral cats or donate to an existing cat rescue doing great work locally. Every contribution is hugely appreciated, thank you 🙏
