Aim

We are raising funds for the artistic development of Still Touch and for the costs of transporting three life sized sculptures across the UK

Why We are Fundraising

In 2019, choreographer Richard Chappell and sculptor Anna Gillespie collaborated to create RCD's first interdisciplinary production called 'Still Touch'. Our process culminated in a full length work which features three dancers and three life sized human sculptures. After it's initial success, we have secured further touring dates in 2020 and would like to take the research and development of the work further.

Still Touch is RCD's first creation with a visual artist and the ensemble's first experience touring with a set. Throughout 2019, this created fresh challenges for us in logistics and costs and this Crowdfunder is aimed to meet these future challenges head on and secure the vital funds needed to safely and transportation Anna's three life sized human figures to rehearsals and performances. Your support will ensure that Richard and the company dancers can dive deeper into the work, without having the responsibility of keeping Anna's artwork safe and mobile.

The financial challenges of touring dance as a young company are many and your support would go a long way to helping us continue to bring this moving work to audiences throughout next year. If our target is met, our funds will contribute towards the hiring of RCD's first Stage Manager to support the use of sculptures in performances within theatres.

About Still Touch

Questioning the relationship between three dancers and Anna Gillespie’s three life-size human sculptures, Still Touch emotes the personal and human need for touch to be reciprocated by a living and moving person. Created initially for Royal Opera House’s Month of Sundays Festival, the work explores the sensitive dynamic of touch between performers who are alive in perpetual motion, and individual sculptures of people fixed in time and constant stillness. Through the performer’s evolving relationship, Still Touch dives into the combination of what people can express in motion and what sculpture expresses through image.
