Stepney Youth would like to organise structured youth development activities that would keep young people occupied and off the streets.

Who are we?

Founded during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our organisation was created to provide a platform for young people across the borough of Tower Hamlets. Our mission is to foster a positive environment that empowers youth from deprived neighbourhoods, helping to address critical issues like gang involvement, violence, substance abuse, and domestic challenges that have escalated in recent years.

We achieve this by offering mentorship focused on career guidance, educational support, and life skills training. Our mentors are committed to supporting the personal growth of young individuals as they navigate the challenging journey from adolescence to adulthood.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Stepney Youth aims to organise structured youth development activities that engage young people, keep them off the streets, and help them build essential social and personal skills. Our focus is on promoting active citizenship, connecting them with relevant support services, and providing a welcoming environment, especially for those who are marginalized or in the NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) group.

We will offer weekly football training sessions designed to improve fitness, teamwork, and communication skills. To foster a sense of ownership and responsibility, young people will also be empowered to take the lead in delivering some of the sessions. Our goal is to work with 60 young people each week, offering them not just football training, but also guidance on other youth activities, educational opportunities, and pathways to employment.

Additionally, we aim to support participants in becoming positive role models, enabling them to influence their peers and extend the impact of our work beyond the immediate group of young people involved with Stepney Youth.

What we have done so far

  • Weekly Football Training: We deliver weekly football sessions that emphasise fitness, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Competitive Play: We participate in competitive 11 & 7 aside football leagues.
  • Employment Support: We’ve helped eight young people secure employment and career opportunities.
  • Educational Workshops: We’ve supported 20 young people through CV workshops, university personal statement guidance, and mentorship on workplace etiquette.
  • Charity Initiatives: We’ve supported charities to help raise over £10,000 over the past two years through fundraising events such as sweet sales.
  • Building Brotherhood: We regularly organise activities that foster a sense of brotherhood, providing a support network for young people.
  • Youth Leadership: We empower young people by giving them the opportunity to lead sessions, fostering ownership and responsibility.
  • Engagement: We work with 60 young people on a weekly basis.
  • Holistic Support: During our football sessions, we also provide information about other youth activities, education, and training opportunities, encouraging participants to be positive role models within their communities.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Running a youth organisation is challenging, especially with limited funding. The money raised will go towards essential costs such as:

  • Facility hire
  • Sports equipment
  • League fees
  • Team kits
  • Team-building activities and community projects outside of sports

As a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation, every donation or funding received directly covers the operational costs necessary to continue providing valuable services to our youth.

Community impact

  • Collaborative Events: We’ve hosted community events in partnership with local community organisations.
  • Charity Programs: We support various charity initiatives that engage and benefit our community and youth.
  • Social Gatherings: We organise events like barbecues to strengthen community bonds.
