Please help save St Austell Town Band and Youth Band

Brass bands are a core of local community life throughout the country. They are brilliant for players and audiences alike, and many risk disappearing altogether. You can help.

We are a 1st Section band based in St Austell, Cornwall. In a normal year we perform 50-60 engagements, from carnivals to concerts to playing carols for care homes. This year we have done 3. Our revenue this year has been close to zero. Our insurance alone costs over £1000.

St Austell has a particularly active and successful youth band, providing a vital community and development path for young people, many of whom go on to play at the highest levels.

Your support will enable the band to survive. Donations are appreciated, or by pledging on a reward you will also be giving the players an opportunity to play, in small groups at least, with all of the vital benefits that brings, for players and audience alike.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Britain's brass band risks collapsing because our revenues can no longer cover our costs. Your donations will be used to pay for vital overheads such as insurance and instrument maintenance, as well as supporting tutors and guest conductors who provide their considerable expertise, often at very low rates.

About St Austell Town Band and Youth Band

The St Austell bands are a vital, recognised and very much appreciated part of the local community. As well as providing a community for about 100 people and their extended families the band provides very high quality music for both entertainment and ceremonial events in and around the town, including Remembrance Day services, summer carnivals and church services and festivals. In a normal Summer we often play 3 or 4 engagements in one weekend.

The band continues a rich part of music history in Cornwall and the UK, as well as creating a future for music making at the highest standards.

About Save Our Brass Bands

Brass bands exist in every corner of the UK, with over 30,000 people of all ages and standards taking part in weekly activity – rehearsing, performing and providing entertainment for their local community.

We risk losing this forever.

Brass Bands saw their main source of income disappear in an instant when they ceased being able to perform in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Months later, we still don’t know when normal performances will be able to take place. A significant loss in income over the Summer months, paired with necessary expenditure needed to make rehearsal spaces Covid compliant means that many Brass Bands are in a perilous financial situation.

Without urgent support, we could lose our nation’s amazing Brass Bands. Please help us to make sure they survive this crisis and will be there to be enjoyed by future generations.

Please donate, share this page widely and do what you can to help us to make sure our Brass Bands survive this crisis.
