On 19 May, we could finally start to put Brexit behind us. But we need your help.
Our country has a choice to make. In May, at a major UK-EU summit hosted by Keir Starmer, we can either align ourselves more closely with the EU and start to unpick the damage of Brexit - or we can stay isolated and disadvantaged, trying to go it alone.
With Donald Trump in the White House, Ukraine’s future in the balance, and global alliances rapidly shifting, there’s no time to sit on the fence.
These new realities make alignment with our neighbours in Europe more urgent than ever. There is positive momentum to build on in the run-up to the summit, where Keir Starmer will meet with EU leaders to discuss practical changes to our current, disastrous Brexit deal.
Between now and then, we have a crucial window to ramp up the pressure for rebuilding ties with the EU. Donate today so we can put our country on the path back to Europe.
Since Keir Starmer’s government was elected last July, they’ve talked about a ‘reset’ of UK-EU relations. And while that’s a welcome sentiment, it is yet to be backed up by any concrete commitments about how they will improve things.
EU leaders have said they’re ready to listen and have even made positive suggestions about ways forward, like a youth mobility scheme that would benefit British young people and UK businesses struggling with staff shortages. But our government is dragging its feet on responding. It’s starting to look like they’re not really serious about undoing the damage of Brexit.
Empty promises aren’t enough. Our economy has suffered a huge setback because of Brexit and it’s not showing signs of recovering. The next generation are missing out on vital opportunities. And all of us have lost rights and freedoms we used to benefit from, like being able to live and work in countries across Europe. We need change, urgently.
The actions of Donald Trump, JD Vance and Elon Musk show us that we can no longer rely on our traditional allies in the US to uphold the same values and interests as us. There is a major global realignment happening - and it’s clear that we need to be aligned with our fellow Europeans who are standing up for democracy, human rights, and national self-determination.
Whether that’s cooperation on defence to ensure Ukraine can continue to defend itself from Russian occupation, working together to tackle the urgent challenge of climate change, or strengthening trade links to help our economy move out of stagnation and better withstand a potential US trade war, there are huge areas where improving our connections with the EU can only be mutually beneficial.
But Brexit is holding us back from building these closer ties. To achieve the change we need, our government must show willing to negotiate meaningful changes to the Brexit deal on 19 May.
Together, we must make the most of this opportunity
Over the next month, our movement has an ambitious campaign plan to ramp up the pressure, and make sure our leaders know that the arguments for a stronger relationship with Europe can’t be ignored.
By 19 May, we need to raise £75,000 so we can:
- Make the case powerfully for concrete, meaningful steps the government can take on 19 May to set us on the path back to Europe - like rejoining Erasmus+, formal cooperation on defence, a youth mobility deal, and agreements to end trade barriers that affect thousands of British businesses, such as an SPS agreement.
- Deliver creative campaigns to inspire more people with our pro-European message - if we can raise the funds, we have two hard-hitting videos in the pipeline to release in the run-up to the summit
- Launch a new report that shines a light on how Brexit has affected businesses and local economies across the UK
- Put our policy asks directly in front of politicians, through detailed briefings, political events, and our behind-the-scenes public affairs work - including coordinating the APPG on Europe, which brings debate on pro-EU issues to the heart of Westminster
- Mobilise our grassroots network of over 100 groups across the country to build pressure within local communities
- Use the media and targeted social media advertising to reach more people and build momentum
People in this country know that Brexit was a mistake. However they may have voted in 2016, the negative fallout has been undeniable. That’s backed up by opinion polls, which show that a clear majority of the public now think we were wrong to leave the EU.
And with the world around us changing so quickly, the UK can’t remain hamstrung by a decision that was made 9 years ago. We must adapt to the times, and there is a growing chorus of voices calling for action.
Our mass movement is growing too. We now have over 26,000 members, with new people getting onboard every day. It’s a sign of how strongly so many of us feel about the harm Brexit has caused - and how urgently we need to address it.
This is a cross-party movement. Representatives from every political party have joined the campaign because the issue of Europe cuts beyond party politics. It affects every aspect of British life, and it will take thousands of us working together to shift the course of our country, back in the direction of European cooperation.
With our momentum building and the national mood shifting, we know that real change is within our sights. By donating today, you can drive this campaign forward and make sure we don’t miss the crucial window for progress between now and May 19.
