A tender, introspective short film about a young man navigating the complexities of dual heritage, through an Indo-Caribbean lens.
Starfruit is a tender, introspective coming-of-age short film about an Indo-Caribbean boy navigating the complexities of his Indian and Black heritage, until a family death forces him to confront who he truly is.
Starfruit is the debut short film from Many Faces Productions, in association with Poppy Rae Productions, exploring identity, heritage and intimacy through the eyes of Zayn, an Indo-Caribbean teenager.
After the sudden death of his grandmother and being told he isn’t “Black enough” by his peers, Zayn confronts the Indian heritage he has pushed aside and finally faces the complexity of who he truly is.
While rooted in one young man’s experience, the film speaks to anyone who has felt divided between worlds. Starfruit is a celebration of Indo-Caribbean heritage and culture; a community rarely seen on screen. We are intentionally collaborating with Indo-Caribbean partners to amplify our story and ensure it is told with authenticity, care and pride.

Meet our Food & Events Sponsor - En-Root

Many Faces are proud to be collaborating with En Root, a London-based, plant-powered kitchen inspired by Indian and Caribbean flavours. Their focus on culture and identity mirrors the heart of Starfruit, making this partnership a natural extension of the world we’re building.
Our Cultural partner - The Caribbean Hindu Society

We are proud to have The Caribbean Hindu Society as our cultural partner for the film. The temple has been a staple of East London since 1959, as one of the first Hindu temples in London, it is home to a large Indo-Caribbean community that have made their home in London throughout the years. The temple is the film's ecosystem and helps us ensure we are both accurate and sensitive to those whom the film directly effects.
