Solar panels will power the charity with clean energy, cutting costs and carbon so more resources go directly to supporting people in need

Project title: Star Throwers Sun Energy Project – AVIVA Communities Fund Climate Action Crowdfunder
We are reaching out to AVIVA colleagues to join us in tackling climate change head-on through the AVIVA Communities Fund. The Star Throwers Sun Energy Project is designed to bring advanced solar panels and robust battery storage to our cancer support centre in Norfolk, actively reducing reliance on fossil fuels and slashing carbon emissions.
This transition to clean, renewable energy not only helps us cut operating costs, allowing more funds to support those affected by cancer but also sets a powerful precedent for local climate action. With your support, we can help demonstrate how communities can take meaningful steps to protect the environment and create a brighter, more sustainable future.
This project not only helps prevent climate change by reducing emissions; it also prepares our community for the impacts already being felt. With AVIVA’s support, the solar panels and batteries will ensure Star Throwers cancer support centre remains operational during power outages or energy supply disruptions, challenges that are becoming more common due to weather and grid instability. This resilience means we can continue providing vital support and care, keeping our doors open when people need us most.
As we adapt to a changing climate, our solar energy system will give us the flexibility to manage resources responsibly and maintain essential services, ambient temperature, lighting, clean therapy linen, ventilation, and safe spaces for support, even when external conditions are challenging. AVIVA colleagues will also be part of our climate action learning initiative, using monitoring tools to raise awareness and inspire others to make sustainable choices. This project is not just about technology; it is about building knowledge, strengthening community, and equipping people to meet climate challenges head-on.
In short, the Star Throwers Sun Energy Project, supported by the AVIVA Communities Fund, is a catalyst for climate action. It prevents further environmental harm by reducing carbon emissions, prepares our centre for the realities of a changing climate, and adapts our operations to ensure we remain resilient and ready for the future.
We invite AVIVA colleagues to join us in the Star Thrower’s mission. Every donation through the AVIVA Communities Fund powers not only our centre, but also our community’s journey towards sustainability and climate resilience.
How the Installation Helps: Solar panels and batteries provide Star Throwers with a reliable, clean energy source, lowering dependence on fossil fuels and shrinking our carbon footprint. This means our centre is not only greener, but also more resilient and ready to face energy disruptions and extreme weather. With AVIVA’s support, it’s a practical, impactful example of how local action can lead to widespread benefits, helping our community prevent climate damage, prepare for the unexpected, and adapt to the realities of our environment.
By integrating solar technology and battery storage, we are future-proofing our support services, empowering beneficiaries with climate knowledge, and strengthening the community’s ability to adapt and thrive, regardless of what the climate or politics throws our way. This is climate action in practice: smarter energy, stronger community, and a more hopeful tomorrow for everyone we serve, with AVIVA colleagues at the heart of our journey.
Every pound raised for the Star Throwers Sun Energy Project is an investment in climate resilience. The installation costs are transparently allocated to solar panel purchase, battery storage, and ongoing maintenance, ensuring maximum impact. AVIVA colleagues can help by donating, spreading the word, or volunteering, together, we are not just supporting people affected by cancer; we’re leading the way in community climate action.
Together, AVIVA colleagues and our community can power a brighter, more resilient future. We can prevent climate impacts, prepare for new challenges, and adapt to change for the benefit of all.
