We're running a Warm Space in St. Thomas' Church Hall, providing a free warm space for people to meet in our pop-up cafe, Root & Branch.
Who are we?We are a Community Interest Company which exists to benefit the community, meaning all profit will go back into our local projects, enriching the community.
Our belief is that all residents of Weardale deserve to have access to high quality creative and cultural experiences despite our remote location, bringing people of all ages together to combat isolation.
Weardale Together aims to create, collaborate, animate and utilise the spaces and facilities within our community, to improve wellbeing and quality of life for residents of Weardale.
Why are we crowdfunding? We're raising money to make a difference and further our cause. In order to fund the Warm Space which we've been running in St Thomas' Church Hall in Stanhope, we applied for and received funding from County Durham Community Foundation, Believe Housing, and Councillor Shuttleworth. This funding allows us to offer free tea and coffee, soups and cakes and covers our costs such as room hire & heating for 8 weeks, until the end of February. We're already getting some fantastic feedback about the café and we're proud to be able to welcome people in for a chat, a hot drink or meal, a craft session, a warm place to work, read, swap books and much more.
How we’ll spend the money raisedAs we all know, the end of February does not mark the end of winter, certainly not up here in Weardale! We'd love to continue to offer free food and drinks and a warm place to be for at least another month, in these tough times. We will continue as long as we are able with whatever money we raise, so if it's a week or a month, we'll be there with big smiles and the world's tastiest cakes!
Any funds we raise that are left over after extending the free food and drink offer to the end of March 2023 will be put towards the development of more projects like this which benefit the community.
