Holidays at six lovely cottages in and around Staithes have been donated to raise funds for the Staithes & Runswick RNLI Lifeboat Weekend

“Lifeboat Weekend is our big annual fundraiser but sadly had to be cancelled because of Covid both last year and in 2020. We thank the owners that have made their cottages available for this fundraising draw and we are 100% behind it.” - Colin Harrison (above, left) Co-ordinator, Staithes & Runswick Lifeboat Weekend 2022.

A three night holiday for two people in the beautiful historic fishing village of Staithes, North Yorkshire in Fisherman's Cottage (one double bed) as seen on TV in 2020 in the BBC's Gone Fishing with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse.

Fisherman's Cottage has a south-facing terrace to relax, soak up the sun, and enjoy this magnificent view.

Staithes is a fabulous place for a holiday and has been a magnet for Hollywood productions and TV shows over the years. Below you can see three times Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis sauntering down Staithes High Street while filming The Phantom Thread....

.... while Bernard Cribbins became a familiar sight in Staithes while filming Old Jack's Boat...

... and Harry Potter fans love it because the North York Moors Railway, a short drive from Staithes, is where the Hogwarts Express thundered down the tracks in the Harry Potter movies.

But it's the people of Staithes and the 3,000 who flock to it who make Lifeboat Weekend such a special event - it all kicks off on a Friday evening when the Nightgown Parade winds its way through the village....

... while Saturday sees the Lifeboat Day raft race from the mouth of Roxby Beck to Staithes Harbour....

.... followed by the Fancy Dress Parade....

... while all afternoon there are stalls, tombolas, raffles and displays on the sea front

--- followed by a fabulous fireworks display in the harbour

On Sunday, there's the annual thrill of the charity fundraising duck race in the beck.

For many years the Staithes Fishermen's Choir would perform at Lifeboat Weekend...

.... a tradition continued in recent years by the Men of Staithes Choir.
Over the last 148 years lifeboats have been stationed at both Staithes and Runswick Bay and the crews have been presented with nine awards for gallantry. The Lifeboat is the lifeblood of the village, we ask you to support this draw to support the heroic men and women who crew the boats for the RNLI, a charity that receives no public funding and relies entirely on the generosity of the public.
