Aim

We aim to bounce back and improve the basic skills of all our players and to coach our coaches through a series of sessions in Spring 2022

St Treas Ballymaguigan is a rural club in Derry with fewer than 400 members.  We currently field 18 male and female football teams with four at adult level, including our newest team, Mums & Others.

We continue to punch above our weight and have enjoyed great success over the years, most recently with our u15 girls selected to play at the 50th anniversary of Féile na nGael in Croke Park.

Our club, however, is much more than a football club, it is the hub of our community and this was never more evident than during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when we provided great service to our community.

Project

The pandemic stopped us in our tracks though with coaching and games severely disrupted, and we are now determined to bounce back in Spring 2022 with our exciting new Skills Development project.  It is our aim to:

1. Improve the skills of all our players;

2. To improve our coaching ability by ‘coaching our coaches’; and

3. Most importantly, to get our young people back out playing in a friendly safe environment.

 We will do this by:

1. Introducing a programme of specific skills development sessions in early 2022.  All underage teams will receive 8 sessions during the project

2. Bringing in coaches from outside our club weekly to train our players and coach our coaches.  This is a new approach for us with each team receiving expert coaching throughout the project.  Our own coaches will be encouraged to shadow  and exchange ideas with the guest coaches allowing them to develop and improve as well as the players

3. Making use of the indoor facilities at Meadowbank Arena on a weekly basis.  This is also a new approach for us with the intention to start earlier in the year and regain some of the lost time from the last two years

 The funds raised will be used as follows:

1. Fees and travel expenses of external coaches

2. Hire or Meadowbank Arena

3. Purchase of footballs and equipment for use during the sessions

4. Coaching courses for new and existing coaches
