An intergenerational boxing & fitness programme bringing YP & older adults together through non-contact training, wellbeing & learning.

Generations in the Ring
Who Are We?
St Monica’s Boxing Club Newry is a community-focused boxing club with a long-standing tradition of supporting local people of all ages. We provide a safe, inclusive environment where members can develop their boxing skills, build confidence, and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
Our club is more than just a place to train. We are a community hub where young people can access positive role models, older adults can stay active and socially connected, and everyone can benefit from the discipline, respect, and resilience that boxing promotes.
We are now launching Generations in the Ring, an innovative intergenerational programme designed to bring seniors and juniors together through boxing. This eight-week pilot will build meaningful connections, improve health and wellbeing, and create a lasting legacy of community cohesion.

What We Are Doing
Generations in the Ring is an 8-week pilot programme that pairs young people (juniors) with older adults (seniors) in a structured boxing and wellbeing programme.
The programme will include:
Weekly boxing coaching sessions led by qualified coaches
Pairing sessions where seniors and juniors train together
Fitness, mobility, and wellbeing exercises tailored to all ages
Mentoring and relationship-building activities
A final showcase event to celebrate progress and community support
This is not about competition. It is about connection, respect, fitness, and community.

Why This Matters
Newry, like many communities, faces increasing isolation among older adults and limited opportunities for positive youth engagement. Generations in the Ring will:
Reduce social isolation for older adults
Support young people with confidence, discipline, and positive role models
Create strong, supportive intergenerational relationships
Improve physical health and mental wellbeing for all participants
Strengthen community cohesion through shared experiences
By combining boxing coaching with mentoring and social connection, we are using sport to create real, measurable community impact.

Why We Need Your Support
To deliver this pilot programme, we need to raise vital funds to cover the costs of:
Qualified boxing coaches
New Equipment
Safeguarding and support staff
Transport support for seniors
Programme materials and resources
A final showcase event
Without these funds, we will not be able to run the programme or reach the participants who need it most.

What We Will Deliver
If we reach our target, we will deliver:
An 8-week intergenerational programme
Twice Weekly sessions with qualified coaches
Pairing and mentoring activities
Improved wellbeing outcomes for participants
A final community showcase event
We will also produce a short report and video highlights to share the impact of the programme with supporters.
If you are interested in participating in this programme please contact the club via our Facebook page or one of the coaches at the club
Our Goal
We are raising £10,000 to deliver the full 8-week pilot of Generations in the Ring.
