An "ecoshelter" for outdoor learning, to teach children about sustainability and wellbeing - creating responsible citizens for the future!
Why do we want our children to be "Snug as a Bug in our outdoor shelter "?
Since the pandemic started, our children have faced a lot of disruption, challenges and change. However, they, their families, and the wider school community of Southam St James Academy, have continued to support each other, show kindness and positivity and always tried their best. One of the important outcomes of the past few years is that we now recognise more than ever, the importance of being outdoors in nature to help children's health and well being, and enhance their learning.
The PTFA are therefore passionate about providing a safe, warm and dry outdoor shelter for the children, to help create amazing memories of their early years at school and enhance their learning opportunities. Also to provide a shelter that can be used as a hub to bring together the wider school community after a significant period of isolation and disruption.
The shelter will be an amazing opportunity to also teach the children about global issues such as climate change and the environment, whilst embedding a love for the outdoors and our planet. We plan to develop the Shelter to have solar panels, grey water recycling, bug hotels, wildlife gardens and lots more.....

The school has a very active EcoCouncil that is also involved in promoting sustainability and environmental matters and will be involved in the detailed design for the Shelter. A recent vote via the PTFA Facebook page showed that 100% of those voting supported improving access to outdoor learning at St James. Children even wished for it as one of their 2021 Christmas Wish Tree Wishes! We intend to use the money raised through this platform to make these wishes come true.......with a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far and to everyone that is able to support us now and in the future.
