Friends of St Cuthbert's Infant School

Aim

We want to create a space for children that is inviting, safe and stimulating, to help them build confidence and make strong friendships.

Our Playground Project

We are the Friends of St Cuthbert’s Infant School. We are made up of parents/caregivers, teachers and teaching assistants. We create ideas for events and activities to raise money to buy equipment, books, whiteboards for each class. We do this through fundraising events and sponsorship's. 

This will be our biggest project to date and we want to put as much effort into it as our teachers put into our children. We want to create a nourishing, inviting and stimulating environment for our children at St Cuthbert’s. We want our parents, teachers and especially our children to be proud of their school. 

Our Plan

We want to level our playground and remove some tree roots which could become trip hazards, resurface the playground, create small spaces for planting and growing. 
We want to create a friendship area and repaint games and activities onto the playground floor to create play that is engaging and meaningful. We want to give our teachers an ‘outside classroom’ to promote and enhance our children’s learning and their knowledge and understanding of the world we live in.

Why is it important?

Fresh air and a stimulating environment is fantastic for children’s health and engagement. There is lots of evidence and theory of why the outside environment can enhance a child’s thought process. Creating friendships and the knowledge of risk but with adult guidance. Evidence shows that children enjoy the freedom to explore and build their own understanding of the world they live in promoting them to ask questions and explore the answers. It gives teachers the tools to understand each child and develop their Individual learning goals and objectives.

Community

We have many outside activities that provide ‘after school’ activities that would use this space. We also use this space for our Christmas Fair, Summer Fair and many of our sponsorship days like ‘Dance-athon and Bounce Day’
