Aim: -support families in choosing to read together. and enable children to experience a live author event. Reading changes everything.
We are a not for profit community group who have created a children's literature festival that aims to be accessible for people in Cornwall, celebrate books and the importance of reading and bring people together in the town centre.
We want to give the children of St Austell and the surrounding areas the opportunity to meet and interact with authors and illustrators. Research shows that when children read for pleasure they improve their life chances and having the chance to meet authors in real life increases the likelihood of them becoming role models to the children.
We want children to become lifelong readers, to talk about books and reading with their families and to get better jobs because of it.
We run monthly events that include book giveaways, quizzes, Dads and lads read togethers and reading picnics. Our work culminates in a 3 day festival that makes use of community buildings and empty units in the town. The festival consists of more than 25 author and illustrator events for children aged 2-16 and their families.
