St Austell Arts Centre- Fire Alarm System

Aim

St Austell Arts Centre is in need of major refurbishment. The most urgent priority is the updating of the fire alarm system.

St Austell Arts Centre began in the 1950s, when volunteers dismantled a former wartime wooden hut from St Eval airbase, moved it piece by piece to Truro Road, and rebuilt it as a community theatre. It later became the permanent home and rehearsal base of the St Austell Players, an amateur dramatic group founded in 1945. At a time when the area had few dedicated arts venues, the Centre offered an important space for drama, music, dance, bridge, and local community events.

Today, the 144-seat theatre operates as a lively community and professional venue, hosting local groups, U3Aactivities, bridge clubs, and regular entertainment events.

The Centre now requires major refurbishment, with the installation of an automatic fire alarm system as the most urgent priority.

This work is expected to cost between £16,000 and £18,000.

The Trustees are exploring crowdfunding and match funding to raise the money needed to protect the  safety of all users, community groups, performers, and audiences.
